Graduate Society Events

Our graduate student society holds social events on a regular basis. If you have suggestions for events, send us an email or talk to your friendly neighbourhood society executive member!

Upcoming Events

Bowling (Friday January 16th)

We're going to Fairlanes in the Halifax shopping centre for an all inclusive (minus beverages and wings) bowling extravaganza. Meet at the lanes at 7pm or meet at Chase at 6:30 for a bus ride.

Past Events

Hallowe'en Party (Thursday October 30th)

This year we're crashing the Undergraduate Halloween Party. The young bucks in the undergrad society have various wild plans for Halloween. The shindig starts at 8. There will be beer and shots for sale. There will also be pizza and other goodies as well as pumpkin carving.

Martini Party (Saturday September 27th)

We're throwing our fall martini party at Catriona's house this Saturday. The festivities are starting early; come by after 3pm. Significant others are welome. Check your email for directions.

Pi Day (Friday March 14th)

Come celebrate pi day at 1:59pm in the lounge. Delicious pie will be served.

Bowling (Friday March 7th)

We've booked three lanes for bowling at Fairlanes in the Halifax shopping centre. The lanes are paid for, but you'll have to chip in for your own shoes. See you there at 8pm!

Games Night (Friday February 15th)

Come out to the Games Night on Friday at 7:00pm at the grad house. This is being held as a joint graduate and undergraduate event. There will be games here, but if anyone has any boards games that they would like to bring along, feel free. See you there!

Hallowe'en Party (Friday October 26th)

We are throwing our annual Hallowe'en party this coming Friday in the colloquium room. So bring out your scariest costume and brace yourself for a good time!

The festivities will start at 8pm. Faculty and staff are warmly invited. There will be munchies, candy and a cash bar. Also, we will be accepting donations of spare change for the undergraduate society's Trick or Eat campaign.

Martini Party (Saturday September 22nd)

Dust off your tux! We are hosting a martini party, beginning at 8pm, at apartment 2709 5599 Fenwick Street (Fenwick Towers). An assortment of spirits, liqueurs, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. The dress is semi-formal (no jeans and dress up as much as you can!) and significant others are welcome.

DAGS Trivia (Wednesday September 19th)

You think you know it all? Then come and show off your knowledge at the DAGS TRIVIA NIGHTS once a month. Each month a team representing a graduate program will be proclaimed the winner. And, one team and only one team will be proclaimed the ultimate winner at the end of the year. Lets make it Math & Stats team! Meet at the grad house at 9pm.

BBQ and Information Session (Monday September 10th)

There will be an information session for all graduate students, new and returning, from 10:30 to 11:30 in the Colloquium Room. This will be followed by a BBQ on the balcony and the 2nd floor lobby, hosted by the Graduate Student Society. All are welcome.

DAGS Trivia (Wednesday April 4th)

The last DAGS trivia night is on April 4th from 9-11pm. We have a shot at winning the whole thing, but we'll need your help. Consider coming out and joining the Math & Stats team even if you haven't before.

Also note that pitchers of Keith's are only $9 on Wednesday nights.

Thai Dinner (Tuesday March 20th)

The MSgrads society is organizing a dinner at Talay Thai Restaurant. The dinner will cost $10 per person and is a great opportunity to try a large variety of Thai dishes.

There is a sign up sheet outside the lounge (2nd floor) for those who will be attending. As space is limited, please email us if you would like to bring a significant other (do not sign him/her up).

Please sign up before noon on Monday.

Talay Thai Restaurant is located at 1261 Barrington Street.

Pi Day (Wednesday March 14th)

Come celebrate pi day at 1:59pm in the lounge. Pie will be served.

Trivia Night (Thursday February 8th)

We are hosting a Trivia Night at the Grad House starting at 8pm. Everyone is encouraged to come and bring friends. Bring your own team or join one when you arrive. Drink prizes will be awarded and there will be a special incentive for any faculty who show up. Come out and enjoy a night of trivia!

Math and Stats Christmas Party (Wednesday December 13th)

This is not technically a grad student society event, but we've all been cordially invited. So come out at noon on the 13th and spend some time with the faculty and undergrads in Chase 319. There will be pizza and potluck desserts and you can make donations (either monetary or in the form of non-perishable food items) to a number of charities. Suit and tie optional, Santa hats manditory.

Games Night (Friday December 1st)

Come out to the Games Night on Friday at 7:00pm in the Colloquium Room (CB 319). We will provide drinks and chips. Also, we will be ordering pizza and we ask those who would like pizza to bring $2. There will be games here, but if anyone has any boards games that they would like to bring along, feel free. See you there!

Martini Party (Saturday November 18th)

Pictures have been posted! Dust off your tux! We are hosting a martini party next Saturday, November 18th, beginning at 8pm at Apartment 2709, 5599 Fenwick Street (Fenwick Towers). An assortment of spirits, liqueurs, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. The dress is semi-formal(no jeans!) and significant others are welcome.

All Hallow's Eve Party (Friday October 27th)

The Halloween Party will be held in Chase 319 starting at 7pm. There will veggies, chips, candy, pop, juice, and a cash bar. So throw on a costume and come on out for an evening of munchies and mayhem! Mwah-ha-ha-ha!

Potluck and Movie Night (Friday September 29th)

The potluck will begin at 6:30pm and spouses/partners are welcome. It would be helpful if you could let us know what you will be bringing.

The movie viewing will be immediately after the potluck, probably about 7:30 -- we'll provide some movies, but feel free to bring your own. Both the potluck and movie will take place in the colloquium room (Chase 319).
