Course Content

Reference Text: Complex Variables and Applications, seventh edition by James Ward Brown and Ruel V. Churchill.

This is a second course in complex analysis. All topics which are required for the comprehensive exam will be covered in this course. The main topics which will be covered are as follows

  1. Review of analytic complex functions
  2. Mobius Transforms
  3. Exponential, Logarithmic and Trigonometric Functions
  4. Cauchy's Integral Formula
  5. Residues
  6. Harmonic Functions
  7. Entire and Meromorphic Functions
  8. Conformal Mappings


Grading

The final grades will consist of homework assignments, a mid-term test and the final exam. Homework will be assigned on a roughly bi-weekly basis to and collected in class.

The mid-term test will be on the Friday of the 7th week of class.

Grading will be as follows:*
Homework 40 %
Mid-term test 25 %
Final Exam 35 %

For students enrolled in 4020, each homework and test will contain optional bonus questions. For students enrolled in 5220 all of the assignment and test questions will be graded normally.
